Fair Work Act Update to Support JobKeeper Operation in Workplaces

On 9 April 2020, the Fair Work Act was amended to support the implementation and operation of the JobKeeper scheme in Australian workplaces.

This gives employers eligible for the JobKeeper scheme certain rights, known as ‘JobKeeper enabling directions’.

Under the updated Fair Work Act, employers can:

  • Stand down an employee (including reducing their work days and hours)
  • Change an employee’s usual duties and location of work

These are temporary and will end on September 28, 2020.

For information about the changes and how they apply, go to the JobKeeper changes to the Fair Work Act page on the Australian Government’s website.
